The Library of America is more than just a publishing house. It is also a cultural institutionthe only organization ever chartered to safeguard our country's literary heritage and to foster greater appreciation for America's best and most significant writing. Just as others work to maintain our nation's parks, battlefields, and buildings, we have been conserving America's literary landscape by publishing authoritative, enduring volumes since 1982.
You can join this effort to preserve America's literary heritage. As a nonprofit organization that receives no regular funding from any foundation or government agency, The Library of America relies on grants and donations to supplement the income from sales. Donor support helps to keep the prices of books low and makes it possible to publish volumes of literary and historical merit that might not pay for themselves through sales alone.
There are numerous ways to give to The Library of America, all of which are tax-deductible.
- Contributions of any amount can be made to our Annual Fund.
- Become a Library of America Fellow.
- The Gift Sets Program helps public libraries, high schools, and other institutions acquire the volumes.
- The Guardians of American Letters Fund keeps all previously published volumes permanently in print.
- Support in the form of Publication Subsidies helps to defray the costs of publishing new volumes.
- Supporting The Library of America is also possible with Securities Gifts or as part of an estate plan through our Planned Giving program.
Please join us and be a part of what Newsweek called "the most important book-publishing project in the nation's history."
The Library of America is registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under its corporate name, Literary Classics of the U.S., Inc.
