The Cedar Tavern (pictured: The Golden Spur book jacket)
As the Café Lafayette was about to be demolished, Dawn Powell began to frequent The Cedar on Eighth Street. In a diary entry of December 10, 1958, she wrote, "Dinner at Cedar. Decided Village is my creative oxygen." When beginning her novel The Golden Spur, Powell called it her "Cedar novel."
