The Empire State Building

In a diary entry of November 15, 1931, Dawn Powell called the Empire State Building, "The most magical spot in the world. Bizarre, theatrical—it is impossible to believe in it and people jumping off are (I'm sure) caught on rubber mattresses a few feet below their jumping off place."
